Colombian oil production reached 929 226 in July of barrels per day (bpd), an increase of 17.9% compared to 788,000 barrels of the same month in 2010, revealed on Tuesday the Minister of Mines and Energy, Carlos Shot.
According Shot, "the oil production in Colombia remains above the target set by the Government in 2011, 920,000 barrels a day, a goal that was surpassed last May."
He added also that gas production in July reached 1,170 million cubic feet per day (MCFD), of which 1035 were sold mcfd.
The government of president Juan Manuel Santos has set a goal of reaching a production of 1,150,000 bpd by the end of his government in 2014.
The hydrocarbon sector accounts for 5.4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Colombia and is one of the fastest growing activities in the country.
According to government figures, Colombia has proven oil reserves of about 2,500 billion barrels.
