Colombia hopes to attract some 400,000 book lovers and visitors from around the world at an annual international book fair that is due to start here next week under the theme "There are Letters for Everyone".
The 24th International Book Fair of Bogota would be launched on May 4 and run through May 16.
President Juan Manuel Santos would inaugurate the event on May 5 with Rafael Correa, president of Ecuador, this year's guest country, according to the fair's director Amalia de Pombo.
"This is no doubt the most important fair in country, and the third most important in Latin America after (the book fairs of) Guadalajara and Buenos Aires," the official told Xinhua recently.
The annual event, which is expected to have some 500 exhibitors attending this year, has won Bogota the title of World Book Capital in 2007, Pombo said.
During this year's fair, visitors will be enjoying book exhibitions, education sessions, book signings, readings and concerts.
A wide range of indigenous communities will also take part, featuring "Festival of Languages" supported by the Colombian government and the United Nations to honor the dialects of these communities and their literary works, he said.
The guest country, Ecuador, meanwhile, will entertain visitors with an art exhibition, traditional music and the best cuisine of the country in its huge 3,000 square-meter pavilion.
"We want to show that Ecuador is currently in the process of change, that Ecuador is looking for good living, a diverse Ecuador, an intercultural, an entrepreneur Ecuador," said Ecuador's Minister of Culture Erika Silva Charvet.
Ecuadorian filmmakers, researchers, artists, photographers, writers and poets including Edgar Allan Garcia, Javier Vasconez, Galo Alfredo Torres and Juan Jose Rodriguez will also join the event.
Other notable events include international forums on scientific journals, editorial marketing and copyright.
Felipe Arnedo, general director of the Colombian publishing house Ediciones B, told Xinhua the company always takes part in the fair.
"Through this fair we can promote many of our international and local authors.
That is very important because Ediciones B wants to invest in Colombian writers and that is also very important for the country," he said.
Enrique Gonzalez, chairman of the Colombian Chamber of Books, said Brazil will be the guest country of next year's book fair.
