The 12th International Puppet Festival in the Colombian city of Cali will be held from April 20 to 28, with groups from Argentina, Italy, Brazil, France and Spain showcasing their different techniques and drama in this art.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the event will honor the Cali Small Puppet Theater, which over more than three decades has brought its work to underserved populations, public schools, districts and small towns.
This year's slogan is "Cali, a dream with puppets," and is meant to promote opportunities for family togetherness while strengthening cultural opportunities in the city, its organizers point out.
For nine days the capital of the Valle del Cauca department will host companies like The Remnant, of Spain, who premiered its piece "The girl and the moon," the Italian Riserva Canini with Talita Kum and the Argentinean Chinese Shadows.
In addition to marathon puppet shows, the festival will offer workshops and open discussions with the community.
