More than 20,000 Colombians are attending a conference titled "Peoples building peace for a decent life," today in this capital, with participants planning to draft a social agenda for a peaceful solution to the armed conflict in the country.
Based at the National University, about 200 figures from South Africa, Europe, the United States, Canada, Kurdistan, and Latin America, as well as 65 social and political organizations, will be also present in the meeting, to support the talks between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia People's Army.
"A peace that means respect and guarantees for human, economic, labor, and environmental rights with social principles based on social justice and equity," will be the main issue driving this initiative, organized by the People's Congress.
According to the organizers, the meeting will seek a comprehensive proposal from the people based on local, regional dynamics, and supported by international solidarity.
The objective is to articulate, build and mobilize a social agenda and generate a national mobilization for peace, they stated.
An International meeting for peace, attended by figures such as Belgian sociologist Francois Houtart, Spanish intellectual Santiago Alba Rico, and Honduran Gloria Oqueli, of the Central American Parliament, was held yesterday in this capital.
