Caribbean Festival in Cuba Fosters Ties with Colombia

The International Caribbean Festival, taking place in this city in July 2.013, will help strengthen cultural ties between Cuba and Colombia, considered one of the organizers.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Orlando Vergés, director of Casa del Caribe, the main institution sponsoring the event for more than 30 years, talked about the warm welcome he received from the Colombian authorities and activists of the movement of solidarity with Cuba.

He stated that for more than a month in Colombia he promoted the 33rd edition of the Fire Festival dedicated to the culture of the Colombian Caribbean, which is being supported by artists and intellectuals of that nation.

Vergés also said that Colombia prepares a wide and diverse delegation, which will mainly show authentic demonstrations of traditional folk culture in Barranquilla and Cartagena.

Vergés thanked the demonstrations of love showed after the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy in Santiago de Cuba and referred to the gestures of Colombians friends to gather monetary donations to heal the resulting injuries.
