Colombian stocks rose modestly friday

Colombian stocks rose modestly friday, led by gains in shares of one of the country's top lending institutions, Bancolombia (CIB), while the peso weakened against the dollar.

The Colcap index, a benchmark for the Colombian Stock Exchange, rose 0.3% to end at 1,749.79 points.

Shares of Bancolombia rose 2.5% to COP28,300.

The bank was picked earlier this week to take control of the public debt instruments of brokerage firm Interbolsa after the brokerage firm was taken over by the government, with plans to be liquidated.

Meanwhile, the Colombian peso weakened, ending at COP1,814.80 per a dollar, from COP1,810.00 the previous day.

The yield on Colombia's peso denominated bond due July 2.024 closed at 6.230%, compared to 6.175% in the previous session.
