Colombian stocks rose Friday, following in the footsteps of U.S. shares that were nudged higher by better than expected quarterly reports from blue chip stocks Microsoft and General Electric.
The Colcap, the Colombian Stock Exchange's benchmark index, rose 0.2% to end at 1,754.56 points.
Among the biggest gainers on the Colombian bourse was Bogota's city owned telecommunications firm ETB (ETB.BO), which climbed 4.3% to COP463.
Meanwhile, the Colombian peso strengthened Friday, ending at COP1,770.90 for a dollar from COP1,774.20 a day earlier, according to Set-FX.
The yield on Colombia's peso denominated bond due July 2.024 closed at 7.086% after beginning the session at 7.09%.
Yields on local debt have been near historic lows in recent days as inflation continues to track lower and the central bank appears to be in no rush to increase interest rates.
