Colombian Colcap Index Rises On Ecopetrol; Peso Gains

Colombia's benchmark stock index rose tuesday, pushed higher by gains in oil and financial shares, while the peso continued to strengthen against the dollar.

The Colcap index, the benchmark measure for Colombia's most liquid shares, rose 0.48% to end the session at 1,713.25 points. 

The index is up 9.02% so far this year.

Ecopetrol SA (ECOPETROL.BO, EC, EC.T) Colombia's state-run oil firm, rose 0.19% in the session to close at COP5,220. 

The preferential shares of Bancolombia SA (CIB, BCOLOMBIA.BO), the country's largest lender, climbed 1.71% to COP28,580.

The Colombian peso, meanwhile, closed at COP1,757.75 to the dollar from COP1,759.70 a day earlier, according to Set-FX.

The yield on Colombia's peso-denominated bond due July 2.024 closed at 7.359%, after beginning the session at 7.337%.
