Colombia Coldeportes Quintero back home after big scare at Milan – San Remo

Twenty-four hours after being admitted in Pietra Ligure’s hospital to be treated for his terrible crash on the Manie descent at Milan-Sanremo, Carlos Quintero was cleared to leave the structure.

Colombia Coldeportes’ rider underwent another CT, and no further issues were revealed other than yesterday night’s diagnosis : Quintero suffered a compound fracture to his left collarbone and a cut on his cheekbone, beyond bruises and abrasions.

Nothing major, as far worse consequences were feared while watching the terrible images from the helicopter : “I watched the video of my crash on YouTube, and it scared me as well…

I only remember losing my track on descent and jumping on a flower bed, nothing else,”  Quintero told.

“Thank God, I was lucky after all…”

After the final tests, Carlos left the hospital at around 16.30, together with masseur Iryna Pavlenko, to reach his home in Sarnico.

He will be sidelined for some 15 days, in order to get back in contention for a very busy late-april schedule, as the Team will take part to races like Fleche Wallonne, Giro del Trentino and Tour of Turkey.

“It was a big scare, fortunately Carlos is fine and will recover soon.

This guy has great spirit, he will definitely bounce back from this bad adventure,  General Manager Claudio Corti said : I am very grateful to Pietra Ligure’s hospital doctors and to RCS race first-aid service, as they all helped Carlos with amazing promptness and professionalism.

We are merely talking about a big scare and we owe it to them and to our Team Doctor Massimiliano Mantovani.“
