Shakira was honored Tuesday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
While the Grammy winner’s star is the 2,454th to be dedicated, it’s the first to belong to a Colombian artist.
“I would like to dedicate this to the Latin community in the U.S., a community that restlessly works and dreams and dreams and works everyday to make this a better country,” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer said.
Shakira, born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripol, was appointed to the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics last year.
The 34-year-old has raised millions of dollars to provide poor children with education through her Colombia and U.S. based nonprofits, Pies Descalzos and The Barefoot Foundation.
