Gowan partners with Colombia company to promote ‘green' products

Gowan Company of Yuma has partnered with a company in Colombia to promote and sell “green” biopesticides and biofungicides around the world.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, biopesticides are certain types of pesticides derived from such natural materials as animals, plants, bacteria and certain minerals.

For example, canola oil and baking soda have pesticidal applications and are considered biopesticides.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, biofungicide is composed of beneficial microorganisms, such as specialized fungi and bacteria, that attack and control plant pathogens and the diseases they cause.

Gowan has reached an agreement with EcoFlora to create a joint venture called EcoFlora AGRO.

Through this joint venture, Gowan Company and its global marketing companies will be the exclusive partner in developing, registering, and marketing EcoFlora's current unique plant extract based portfolio and their robust product pipeline.

“We are very excited about having Gowan as our global platform to bring our innovative and green, plant extract bio pesticides to such important markets around the globe,” said Nicolas Cock, EcoFlora AGRO's CEO.

“EcoFlora has been working for 12 years to develop its crop protection portfolio based upon the rich biodiversity and the great and talented people that Colombia has to offer.”

Gowan's partnership with EcoFlora is the next step in the evolution of Gowan's product portfolio and their continuing efforts to provide crop protection solutions that are both efficacious and meet market and regulatory demands for safe food around the world, company officials said.

“Our goal is to develop an innovative IPM program combining our current crop protection portfolio with EcoFlora's plant extracts,” said Sergio Comparini, Gowan's business development manager.

“EcoFlora Agro's existing and future products will enhance and globally strengthen our efforts to bring unique solutions for growers in all the countries we serve.”

The Gowan Company includes offshoots in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, Italy and Chile.

Gowan supports specialty crop growers through regulatory defense, market experience and product development.
