New Brand Protection Program Leads to Discovery of Counterfeits & Arrests
Authentix, the global leader in authentication, and Figurazione, a leading systems integrator, have partnered to safeguard spirits produced by the leading producers in Colombia : Fabrica de Licores de Antioquia (FLA) and Industria de Licores del Valle (ILV).
With over 48% market share, FLA is the largest domestic spirits producer in Colombia. Both FLA and ILV are state-owned entities whose revenues make up a significant portion of their respective state government revenues.
These programs were implemented in late 2.010.
Since then approximately 100 million authentic bottles of spirits have been protected.
Field inspection equipment has been provided to inspectors across the country to help identify and investigate suspect products in the market. 10% of the over 300 retail outlets inspected have resulted in discovery of counterfeit products leading to multiple investigations and eventually arrests.
During this time frame, FLA enjoyed an increase in sales of over 10%.
The Authentix/Figurazione solution involves multiple layers of security which includes:
An overt hologram in product packaging for tamper evidence and to help consumers verify product authenticity by visual inspection
A covert feature in the product packaging for authentication by inspectors
A covert feature incorporated in ingestible product for verification in the field by inspectors
A covert feature incorporated in ingestible product for forensic verification in certified labs by the experts
Handheld field verification detectors and test kits distributed to the investigators in the field
With nearly 1,300 Police and Government Tax Inspectors trained in authentic product verification across 28 of the 32 States in Colombia, the program has started to impact the counterfeit problem which had reached over 50% of spirits offered for sale in some areas.
