Colombia’s Sergio Luis Henao wins Tour of Utah Prologue

In his first-ever U.S. competition, Colombian cyclist Sergio Luis Henao kicked off the Tour of Utah by winning the Prologue here with a time of 4 minutes, 5.82 seconds on Tuesday afternoon.

“It feels really good to have the leader’s jersey, and I’m happy to be in the USA,” said the 23-year old, who rides for Team Gobernacion De Antioquia-Indeportes Antio.

“I know we’re a modest team and we’re competing against some great teams, but we’re here to fight and compete every day.”

Francisco “Paco” Mancebo (RealCyclist.com) placed second with a time of 4:07, while Henoa’s teammate Ribera Sevilla took third at 4:10.

American riders finished in the next three spots, with Tejay Van Garden (HTC-Highroad), Thomas Danielson (Team Garmin-Cervelo) and last year’s winner and Rowland Hall grad Levi Leipheimer (Team RadioShack), finishing fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

The Olympic Park time trials provided a challenging start for riders as they dealt with a climb that included an average pitch of 7 percent.

While the Prologue is only two kilometers in length, it’s one of the most vital segments of the race, as it determines the pecking order and start times for Stage 1 on Wednesday in Ogden.

Cycling fans will have a chance to get a glimpse at some of the best in the business as this year’s race is filled with many past winners, plenty of local riders, and some of the bigger named teams in the sport.
