Colombian Stocks : Ecopetrol, Odinsa Rise; Rubiales Declines

The following companies had unusual price changes in Bogota trading.

Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of 4 p.m. New York time.

The IGBC Index rose 0.1 percent to 13,208.27 while the Colcap Index 0.4 percent to 1,604.16.

Ecopetrol SA (ECOPETL) , Colombia’s largest oil company, rose by 1.5 percent, the most in two weeks, to 3,680 pesos.

The state-controlled company is getting closer to making a “big” oil discovery, RCN Radio reported, citing Chief Executive Officer Javier Gutierrez.

The company is searching for new reserves in Colombia, Perú, Brazil and the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

Grupo Odinsa SA (ODINSA) , the Bogota-based engineering and construction company, rose 5.4 percent, the most in four months, to 8,750 pesos.

The shares moved on a large block trade, said Andres Jimenez, head of international sales at Interbolsa SA, Colombia’s biggest brokerage.

Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. (PREC) , the Toronto-based oil producer that operates fields in Colombia, fell for a second day by 1.5 percent to 44,120 pesos.

The regulator, known as Superintendencia de Sociedades, opened an investigation into companies including 10 affiliates of Rubiales on whether they should be included in a conglomerate for tax purposes, according to an Aug. 24 statement on its website.
