Occidental Oil Workers In Colombia Threaten To Strike >OXY

Unionized workers for Occidental Petroleum Corp. (OXY) in Colombia are threatening a work stoppage that could halt production at the 90,000-barrel-a-day Cano Limon oil field, a union leader said Wednesday.

Tarsicio Mora, head of CUT, Colombia's largest trade union federation, said some 400 unionized workers for Occidental plan to go on strike if the company doesn't rescind within the next 10 days a labor plan that he says would cut workers' income by 30%.

Officials at Los Angeles, Calif.-based Occidental weren't immediately available for comment.

Occidental operates the Cano Limon field in the northeastern state of Arauca.

Discovered by Occidental in 1983, the field is one of Colombia's oldest and has so far produced more than 1 billion barrels of oil.
