Colombia's exports surged in February, extending a boom in the country's overseas sales that is being driven by commodities like coal and oil.

Exports for February rose 22.5% to $4.83 billion, the government's statistics agency, known as DANE, reported Monday.

Exports of fuel and commodities rose 30% from a year earlier while sales of manufactured products rose 11.4%, Dane said.

For the 12 months through February, exports are up 40.7%.

The U.S. was the destination for 37.6% of Colombia's exports, according to DANE.

The U.S. and Colombia have signed a free trade agreement which is expected to come into effect later this year.
