Colombians Debate Peace Process

In order to open a space for reflection on peace processes in Colombia, social and academic organizations held a forum for analysis and discussion of this issue on Friday.

The event, held at the University of Santo Tomas, aims to build a collective memory about the peace talks from a critical and creative approach, Martha Roncancio, member of the organizing committee, told Prensa Latina.

She explained that the meeting is aimed at reconciling the views on these processes to consolidate one, after several failed attempts.

Present at the forum were several peace commissioners, who will evaluate and share their experiences about the role they have played in the talks with the insurgents.

They will also analyze how to build negotiating scenarios in the current political situation, in which the administration of Juan Manuel Santos seems to bet on the military way, as evidenced by recent actions and military operations.

On the other hand, the guerrillas repeated their willingness to find a political solution to the armed conflict, but without the demobilization of their forces, as required by President Santos.
