Colombian journalist receives human rights prize

Journalist Hollman Morris received the International Nuremberg Human Rights Award on Sunday in Germany for his coverage of political violence in his native Colombia.

'You are the Colombian voice of freedom.

You are a role model for a humane and just world,' said Horst Seehofer, the premier of the German state of Bavaria in honouring Morris with the prize, worth 15,000 euros (20,260 dollars).

The 43 year old Morris gave a face to the victims of violence and brutality, said Flor Alba Romer, human rights officer at the University of Bogota.

Mass murders, contract killings, disappearances and forced evictions were just some of the topics which Morris had brought to public attention, she said.

The award has been presented annually in the southern German city since 1.995.
