Colombia extends tariff on free zone clothing, shoes

Colombia’S tariff wall on clothing and footwear is to be extended for two years directly affecting the Colón free zone.

The measure directly hits Colombian businessmen who are the zone's second biggest group of users. who reexport.   

This decision was made to prevent low-cost items from being imported into Colombia, hurting local producers. 

President Juan Manuel Santos said the measure will protect the country's economy.

The measure imposes joint tariffs on imports of apparel and footwear that arrive in the country with prices below actual cost. 

The announcement was made at the opening of a textile and fashion industry show.
