Presidents of Panamá and Colombia stated cooperation effectiveness


The Presidents of Panamá, Ricardo Martinelli, and Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, highlighted today the validity of the bilateral cooperation, during a meeting in the framework of the First Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac).

Both leaders head their respective delegations at the summit of the Celac which ends in this capital after two days of intense work.

Martinelli and Santos discussed important bilateral issues related to border security, technology, science, education, culture and sports.

They also discussed specific aspects such as electrical interconnection, the fight against drug trafficking, and a free trade agreement, among others. 

Martinelli expressed the willingness of both nations to implements all that has been agreed.

We expect to move forward as soon as possible on the subject of electrical interconnection because that way we can reduce the cost of electricity for Panamanians, Martinelli admitted.

He said that Panamá is also working to achieve the deadlines set out in a framework agreement to enter directly as full members of the mechanism of the Pacific Alliance.
