Colombia president tells rebels to free prisoners

Colombia’s president isn’t responding to the urgings of the country’s biggest rebel group to let activists visit jailed guerrillas as part of the rebels’ plan to free 10 soldiers held prisoner for up to 14 years.

Speaking a day after Saturday’s statement from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, President Juan Manuel Santos says only that the FARC should keep its earlier promise and free the 10 soldiers and police officers.

The rebel group hasn’t set a date for releasing its captives, saying only that it plans to free them in two groups.
