Colombia, Venezuela for Economic Thrive

Negotiators from Colombia and Venezuela advance in 48-hour meet in Bogotá the legal framework of bilateral exchange, said Colombian Trade, Industry and Tourism Minister Sergio Diaz-Granados.

Presidents Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia and Hugo Chavez of Venezuela signed the memorandum last November on the sale and purchase of 4,200 products, and rated global bilateral trade growth from January to October in 28% compared to similar period in 2.010.

Within that figure exports represent 12% rise -from $1.156bn to $1.298bn. 

Among the top sales overseas he mentioned oil (64% sales rise); unrefined chemicals (77% jump), and textiles (42%).

Diaz Granados added that imports enjoyed a healthy 113% ten-month improvement from $206M in 2.010 to $440M, owed namely to the petrochemical and iron and steel industries.

The Minister noted at the talks Colombia´s advancement concerning the one billion USD foreign debt, with some $903M pay off, which is 90% coverage.

Colombia and Venezuela now work on an overall improvement of relations based on confidence and respect of their assymmetries, with their President´s political will at the core, all of which reflect in the almost permanent contacts after restoring bilateral diplomatic relations.
