Thousands in Bogotá Break Two Fitness Guinness World Records

Thousands of people in Colombia’s capital shattered records previously held by Budapest for Kickboxing, and Manila for Aerobics!

These Colombians gathered in the capital’s Simón Bolívar Park to participate in the largest fitness event the nation has ever seen.

From the early hours of the morning entire families and large groups of friends stood in long lines by the park’s entrances to sign the Guinness Records registration forms that now are the official proof Bogotá holds two Fitness Guiness World Records.

Around 10:20 in the morning, 8,200 citizens of Bogotá punched and jabbed at imaginary opponents, mimicking the professional kick-boxers leading the exercises from the 14 stages set up around the park; sixteen minutes after that number became official, it was announced Bogotá had taken the title from Budapest as the city hosted the largest amount of kick-boxers at one time, a title the Hungarian city held since 2.009, when 2,336 Hungarians kick-boxed for 10 minutes.

Just two hours later, in the largest ever aerobics session 50,420 Colombians danced and shook and stretched into the history books, breaking the record of most people performing aerobics, formerly held by the Philippines.
