Remittances to Colombia totaled U.S. $ 1.013 million in first half

Remittances to Colombia for foreign workers arrived in the first half of this year to 1,013 million dollars, 44 million above those recorded in the same period last year, according to figures from Central Bank of the Republic reported Saturday.

"That means that one way or another they have improved the economic situation of Colombians who were living after the fall that had remittances in 2.008, 2.009 and much of 2.010,"  the bank manager José Dario Uribe told the reporters.

The official said only last June entered the country in remittances of $ 336.2 million, up 5% over the same month of 2.010, totaled about $ 320 million.

For the most part, remittances from Colombians abroad from the United States and Spain.

In 2.010 remittances to Colombia reached U.S. $ 4.023 million, with 2.6% lower compared to those of 2,009, but according to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), higher inflation and appreciation of the Colombian currency, originated the value of these come down 14.4%.
