Colombia will plant 35,000 trees to mitigate pollution of the U-20 Worldcup

The Colombian government and the agenda of the FIFA Green Goal (goal green) in Colombia planted about 35,000 trees of various native species to mitigate emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) generated by the World Cup U-20, which begins Friday July 29.

 
The president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, said the planting of oak, dragon hides and seven other species of trees in central and west, will offset greenhouse gas emissions generated during the 23 days provided for the championship ending on August 20.


"It is estimated that this sporting event, which begins next Friday, will generate 9,000 tons of carbon dioxide, taking into account the transport of delegations, their housing, energy will be used in stadiums, in every game" , said Friday the president.


Santos said there are plans for planting in areas that supply water systems and ecosystems veredales requiring restoration and hoped that the environmental agenda will become the "feast of football a reason to promote the conservation of environment."


The World U-20 Colombia-2011 will open on Friday 29 in the Caribbean city of Barranquilla with a match between Brazil and Egypt.  
Colombia the next day debut against France at the El Campin stadium in Bogota.


In the sporting event, 24 youth teams from five continents will compete for 23 days until 20 August.  
The combined Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Spain and Uruguay are the favorites to win her eighteenth edition of the world tournament.
