Colombia's exports jump 34.6 pct in April - govt

Colombia's exports rose 34.6 percent in April compared with the same month a year earlier, to a total of $4.69 billion, driven by oil sales, the DANE statistics agency said on Friday.

Traditional exports including coal, oil, coffee and ferronickel grew 48 percent to $3.31 billion in April, while nontraditional exports such as flowers and chemicals increased 10.4 percent to $1.38 billion.

The value of exports of crude and oil products rose 57.2 percent in the month, the official DANE statistics agency said. Colombia's is Latin America's No. 4 crude producer.

The Andean country's economy is expected to grow more than 5 percent this year, quickening from 4.3 percent in 2010.

It continues to enjoy a boom in oil and mining investment as security improves following a government crackdown on armed guerrilla groups.

Colombia usually runs trade surpluses with the United States and Venezuela and deficits with Mexico and China.

The DANE will release imports and the balance of trade for April on June 14.
